Announcing the Girl Child and Her Long Walk to Freedom
Dear Friends and Colleagues –
I hope this finds you safe and healthy wherever you have been sheltering.
I am reaching out to let you know about an initiative to create greater awareness of the issues connected to patriarchy and faith called The Girl Child & Her Long Walk to Freedom: Putting Faith to Work Through Love to Break Ancient Chains that I am honored to have advised on – please check out the website, short video and statistics: https://girlchildlongwalk.org/.
The Girl Child Reading Journey is a six-month deep dive into the history of patriarchy and the role of faith traditions in perpetuating it which was written by Emily Nielsen Jones of the Image Dei fund and Reverend Domnic Misolo of the Institute for Faith and Gender Empowerment. We would like to extend an invitation to participate in the next cohort of the reading journey, beginning on October 11, 2020, the International Day of the Girl Child, and ending on March 8, International Women’s Day. You can sign up here to participate in the reading journey.
We welcome your partnership and there are a range of ways to help spread the word about The Girl Child Long Walk:
Share our video Understanding our History of Patriarchy
Share our “Intolerable Status Quo” infographics
Use our video or infographics in presentations or curriculum
Add a link to the Girl Child Long Walk project to your website
Encourage your staff, volunteer teams, faith community and networks to participate in the reading journey,
Submit a blog post for consideration and promote Girl Child Long Walk blog content to your community
Submit a workshop, book, research article or other offering to be considered for the Resources section of the Girl Child Long Walk website
Share the names of faith-inspired change agents working on women’s and girl’s issues who can be featured and amplified in Girl Child Long Walk efforts
We welcome additional ideas and ways we can support you! Marie-Rose Romain Murphy is the Girl Child Project Director (https://girlchildlongwalk.org/about/#the-team ). I hope you will feel free to reach out to Marie-Rose if you would like to partner with us in any way to promote the reading journey through your networks or have questions on the project. Marie-Rose may be reached at marie-rose@girlchildlongwalk.org.
